Chun To graduated from University of Birmingham in 2019, majoring in Drama and Theatre Arts with an Excellent First Class grade for his Practical Project in Drama: ‘ASIAN vs. AS.I.AM’ (2019), looking at the institutional racism of Asian representation in Western culture, receiving the highest score that has ever been awarded by the department since establishment.
Chun To founded XTRAMENTAL, and has written, directed and choreographed pieces such as ‘Hello To My Hollow Heart’: short plays about human indifference, ‘Mind, and Hours’: concert about Hong Kong, ‘Chasing Stars’: Cantonese musical about the DSE curriculum, ‘32 Seconds of Ecstasy’: a cappella and physical theatre show exploring what is happiness, ‘Where There is No Darkness’: dance film based on the world-building of ‘1984’, and ‘Light Talks’: an interactive gamified performance where the audience try to prevent the crime of an art gallery heist that is about to happen.
His musical theatre performance credits include: ‘Fiddler on the Roof’ (HKREP), ‘Godspell’, ‘Westside Twirling Dream’ (Theatre Space), ‘Our Poor Happy Life’ (Musical Trio), ‘Spring Awakening’, ‘Rent’, ‘Made in Dagenham’ (University of Birmingham), etc.
